Craft Beer of Philly at the Interpretive Center

On Wednesday, June 26th, the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center will host “Craft Brewing in Philadelphia: Past, Present and Future” from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. Rich Wagner has been studying the history of brewing in Philadelphia since 1980 and is the author of Philadelphia Beer, a Heady History of Brewing in the Cradle Liberty (History Press 2012). He will share the turbulent history of Philadelphia’s breweries, like when the Schmidt brewery closed in 1987 and for the first time Philadelphia found itself without a brewery. Since then new, small breweries have emerged and made themselves prominent in the Philadelphia area and beyond. Today, the City is home to two operating production facilities. Join us to learn more about Philadelphia’s reputation as a world class brewing center as well as intensive tradition and heritage behind the modern day practices.
