Penn Alexander School
The University of Pennsylvania and the School District of Philadelphia, working in partnership with the Philadelphia Water Department Office of Watersheds, implemented an innovative storm water management project on the site of Penn Alexander Elementary School in West Philadelphia. The school site posed significant challenges in terms of stormwater retention and soil erosion and offered significant opportunities to provide environmental education and environmental diversity to the community. Major components of the project include rooftop collection, an underground infiltration bed, porous pavement play yard, and a rain garden.
