The Plants We Use- A Guide to GSI Landscaping

Green City, Clean Waters promotes the use of green stormwater infrastructure throughout the city. These green tools use plants, trees and stone to filter, store and manage stormwater in a smart and cost-effective way.

The Plants We Use

One of the most common questions Philadelphia Water recieves about its green infrastructure is: "What kind of plants do you use?"

PWD selects from a wide variety of species native to Southeastern Pennsylvania. We use natives because of their ability to survive the wide variety of weather we experience in Philadelphia. Additionally, these plants will thrive in the extreme wet and dry conditions associated with a rain garden, bump-out and other types of green infrastructure.
